Budget Sweep Update 3-13-10

Stay tuned for more info on the budget sweep.  On top of the letters to your representatives we will be providing info to contact the Budget Director himself with our complaints about the sweep.  The idea will be for the Budget Director's phone to be busy all day long until he can't take it anymore and decides to reverse the sweep.  As soon as that contact information is available we will post it and e-mail it to the membership.  It's important that the state not be allowed to take this money, when the state starts acting like a thief in the night I hate to think what it will become next.

Todd

Here is the contact info for direct phone calls and fax numbers to fax your letters.  We need to fire away:

Governor Paterson phone: 518-474-8390

Budget Director Robert Megna phone: 518-473-3885

Governor Paterson FAX: 518-474-1513

Budget Director Robert Megna FAX: 518-402-2298

more info about the sweep and sample letters: http://www.nyssnowassoc.org/

check out the video:  http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=2322615143938

This is the template letter we will be asking our members to send to their respective NYS Senators and Assembly people to combat the Trail Fund Sweep that Governor Paterson has advanced.

The WEBSTER RIDGE RUNNERS INC. snowmobile club was founded in December 1975 and incorporated in April 1976. The 40 charter memberships included families and singles from Webster, Penfield, Rochester, Ontario and Walworth.
Over the past two and half decades the club has grown steadily to the present membership of over 700 families and singles, totaling approximately 1400 people.
The continuing primary function of the club is to promote safe and responsible sledding through the establishment of the WEBSTER RIDGE RUNNERS trail system. Approximately 40 miles of groomed and maintained trails connect eastern Monroe County to western Wayne County and includes areas of Webster, Penfield, Walworth and Ontario. The Eastern section of the system connects to NYS Corridor Trail #4. The WRR trail committee maintains cooperation and permission with over 80 PRIVATE landowners.

Check out the info for the signage tear down and year end party listed at the top of this page.  The tear down will take place on March 27th and the year end party is March 28th.  Hope you can make these events, they are both a great time.   Don't forget to write in to your representatives protesting the budget sweep.  Also, please send in to our PO box any sold NYSSA Raffle tickets.  Make checks payable to the Webster Ridge Runners.

The next Officers Meeting will be Thursday March 18 as March 17 is St. Patrick's Day.  The location is TBD and I will list that on the site.  You can turn in raffle tickets at this meeting as well.

All members should have received a map with 5 NYSSA Raffle tickets and a club sticker.  You can turn in sold raffle tickets at any club meeting or event or you can send them to our mailing address at the top of the page.  Make checks payable to Webster Ridge Runners.  If you didn't receive a map and the raffle tickets from us, and joined the club this year, send me an e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will get a packet out to you.

It was good to see the trails with adequate snow coverage and people out riding.  Hopefully we get another storm and can get another week or two of good riding.

We are becoming aware of two issues that could affect the financial future of the club and will formulate a response soon.  One threat is coming from the clubs in the Tug Hill area.  Currently 2/3 of the registration money collected from our members goes to fund trails outside of our trail system.  The clubs in Tug Hill are claiming they deserve more of our money than the 2/3 they already get.  If they want it all, they may end up with nothing.  Stay tuned for more info on this one.

The second threat is coming from the state in the form of a budget sweep.  They claim one million dollars from the trail fund each year for the next 5 years.  On top of those millions the state claims up to an additional 30% to be transferred to the general fund to most likely be made available to organizations who would like to cease our freedom to ride.  We will need to do another write in campaign to our state legislators and governor and demand that this action be ceased.  Keep an eye on our web site and the NYSSA web site for write-in information.

Our club currently has the correct funding to maintain safe trails and the groomers that we purchased.  A retraction in future funds will cause us to go backwards.  As these threats develop we will need your help to defeat them.

At the March General Meeting we will have elections for the club officers.  If anyone is interested in running for a position please contact JB Hanlon at 585-732-0175 or any club officer.

The next event for the club is the Year End Banquet on Sunday March 28 at Carey Lake.  JB Hanlon will coordinate this event look for more details to follow.
