General Meeting:

Thursday Feb 2

CANCELLED: we decided to cancel the General Meeting as several of us are heading to Tug Hill to try to get some riding in Friday.

The Poker Run is also cancelled, we hope to have the picnic if winter arrives.  We will keep you posted.

TRAILS ARE CLOSED

UPDATE:  The trails are closed.  Please stay off the trails, the snow dance might help!

The snow phone number is 234-0095.

There are 2 areas that we have been asked to help relieve a few issues.

The 1st area is the AC Auto Plex on the corner of Rte 104 and Lincoln Rd (across the street from Tractor Supply).  Please stay off the parking lot of the Auto Plex.  It looks like some people were jumping the bank onto the parking lot and the track studs and carbides were finding pavement.  You can use the right-of-way but not the parking lot,  this goes for all businesses along 104.

The second area is near the corner of Salt Rd and Ridge Rd.  Please don't cut thrugh the unmarked fields, we don't have premission to ride through that area. This includes the area behind the old Webster Inn.  You will need to ride the right-of-way to get to the trails from this area.  We are trying to add a trail along the 104 Bike Path and connect to our trails which would solve this issue but that is a year away.

Club Picnic:

Rescheduled for a snowy Sunday.  The picnic is on the trail system at Dick and Sharon Weidman's

1111 County Line Road in Webster

New trail to Log Cabin Restaurant:

The club is opening a new trail to the Log Cabin Restaurant at the corner of 31F and West Walworth Rd in Macedon.  Many thanks to the landowners who have granted permission for this new trail which is about 4 miles long.  This trail was 2 years in the making and once permission was granted many members jumped into action to prepare this trail for the season and did a great job.

The WEBSTER RIDGE RUNNERS INC. snowmobile club was founded in December 1975 and incorporated in April 1976. The 40 charter memberships included families and singles from Webster, Penfield, Rochester, Ontario and Walworth.
Over the past two and half decades the club has grown steadily to the present membership of over 700 families and singles, totaling approximately 1400 people.
The continuing primary function of the club is to promote safe and responsible sledding through the establishment of the WEBSTER RIDGE RUNNERS trail system. Approximately 40 miles of groomed and maintained trails connect eastern Monroe County to western Wayne County and includes areas of Webster, Penfield, Walworth and Ontario. The Eastern section of the system connects to NYS Corridor Trail #4. The WRR trail committee maintains cooperation and permission with over 80 PRIVATE landowners.

Snowmobile safety information:  http://www.weather.com/activities/recreation/ski/snowmobiling/safety.html

Its funny when something is broken you tend to learn more about it than when it isn’t broken.  Take this winter for instance.  It is broken for sure.  And before this winter I never knew about positive and negative AO and NAO, never heard the term Polar Vortex or Greenland Block or computer generated weather ensembles.  But it seems these things are all out of position this year and the results are a warm winter and a confused jet stream.

There is still hope that some portion of February and into March will give us some winter weather to open the trails.  While we are waiting we have decided to cancel the Poker Run for this year.  We are hoping to have the Picnic and Kyle Nelson’s event later in February and will be paying close attention to the weather forecasts.  If we get a few weekends of snow we can have these events on short notice.

I would like to thank all the people who helped get the trails ready this year.  There is a lot of time and work invested getting the trails ready and years like this when its all work and no play make it that much more difficult.  But next year we will do it all again except we will get the snow.

I also would like to thank all of our sponsors including map advertisers, groomer supporters and sponsors and all the members who have signed up this year.  Even though we don’t have the snow the club still has the expenses.  This year we invested over $12,000 in trail upgrades.

When the snow does fly I would like to point out a few things about signing and where to ride.  The fields are marked with either double or triple stakes.  Double stakes are on flat land and triple stakes are on blind hills.  When riding between double stakes stay between the stakes and to the right.  When riding in triple staked areas ride between the 2 stakes to your right.  Don’t ride outside of the stakes.  Last year I saw a lot of people riding outside of the stakes and I think it was because they were confused as to where to ride.  Always stay to the right especially in turns and blind hills.

Hopefully we get some snow and some riding in.  My gut tells me we will be open for a week or 2 later in the season so be ready because it may be here and gone in a flash!
