Work Detail October 4th and 5th - Ed @ 07:05 EST
Well it is that time again and we are looking forward to a very white winter. We have been surveying the trails and there is quite a bit of clean up to do to get them ready for this season. Our first work detail with be Saturday and Sunday October 4th and 5th. On both days we will be clearing brush on the system and on Sunday, we will also be doing maintenance and repair on the groomer. All of you motor heads can get in contact with Don Wilson if you want to help out on the groomer. Don’s number at the garage is 265-1350 If you are available to work on the trails, please drop me an e-mail at pty@rochester.rr.com to sign up. It helps me schedule the work if I have an idea of the number of volunteers we will have. I know it is nice and warm out now, but this is the best time to get the work done so come join us. We will be meeting at the Weidman’s, 1111 County Line Road in Webster at 9 a.m. on both days. Chain saws, gas powered trimmers, hedge trimmers and pruning tools will all be useful. We can also use tractors with brush hogs, backhoes and bulldozers. Also, if you haven’t paid your dues for next year yet, it would be helpful if you did so a little early. We are spending money now and our funding will not come in for a few months. Your dues will help us bridge the gap so we can afford to do the work that needs to be done now. If you enjoyed riding our trails last year, we are aiming at making them even better this year. Remember, they are your trails, so pitch in and help make them the way you would like them to be. I’ll see you out there! Trail Boss

LetterFrom The President - Ed @ 09:04 EST
Dear Webster Ridge Runners Member: Well, it's that time of year again, time to start thinking about the fast approaching snowmobiling season. Your Webster Ridge Runners Executive Committee has been busy over the summer attending the annual meeting of the New York State Snowmobile Association, monitoring the trail insurance situation, working with landowners, both new and old, to circumvent some new construction obstacles, and brainstorming to come up with ideas to continue to grow our club. Before we go any further, I want to take this opportunity to announce the first official club meeting of the year, to take place October 1, 2003 at the Webster VFW on Jackson Road in Webster. Please take note that it was previously posted that the meetings would take place at Tradin' Paint Restaurant on route 104 in Ontario, however, that option is not going to work out for us. Meetings will continue to be held at the Webster VFW. I will make one more plea to all of you, then I'll leave you alone (for a while). We need volunteers and we need a lot of them. If you have any interest in helping out with this Club, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can do so by clicking the email the President button on the website, or by calling me at 265-1753. Please don't think that all we need is physical work done on the trails. There are many jobs that don't involve physical labor at all. Some of these jobs include, stuffing envelopes, logging membership applications, compiling reports, making telephone calls, coordinating club events etc. Of course, we are always looking for volunteers to help with clearing, marking and preparing the trails. If we could get just 3 hours of time from each member of this Club, we would have plenty of manpower to be the very best run club in New York State. Please don't be shy, or assume someone else will do it, this club belongs to all of us, and we must all share in the work. One of the things that we did poorly last year is communication with the membership. I am happy to say that we have rectified the situation as Tom Gerace has agreed to be the Club's Corresponding Secretary for this year. We will be back to our format of monthly newsletters. I am also looking for ideas to spice up our monthly meetings (within reason please). I want to do more than simply lecture to you with the same old information. As part of that, I am working on enhancing our information table that has historically been right inside the door at the meetings. If any of you have snowmobile news, maps, or products that you wish to display, please feel free to bring them. There is no charge and all I ask is that you keep the items snowmobile related. Maps and flyers from good riding destinations are also encouraged. Let's fill the table with information! Well, I think that's enough for now. As you can see, there is a lot that goes into the operations of the Webster Ridge Runners, Inc....your club. Let's all step up, be visible, attend meetings and volunteer. If we all do our part, we will make this year even better than the great year we enjoyed last year. Sincerely, Randall R. Phillips, President
We have many challenges this coming year, not the least of which is the trail insurance issue. I have updates for you on this, and many other important issues including trails, construction areas, Club officers and vacant positions, New York State trail grants and the Pending 2003 Snowmobilers Rights and Responsibilities Act which is currently with the State Assembly in Albany. These issues impact all of us and I urge you to attend the meeting to keep yourself well informed.
I would also ask that if at all possible, please submit your membership application early this year as we need to generate cash flow as soon as possible. Things are different this year since we don't have the cash flow of the Grassfire 500 to help us fund items like trail insurance, trail maintenance, groomer prep, etc. Your membership dollars are vital to a strong kick-off to this year. The weather reports are calling for a good winter in terms of snowfall, so lets all do whatever we can to make sure we are ready to ride.
